I hope you like the new look!
Please let me know if you're having trouble finding anything.
Important Announcements ~ We had a great time celebrating Halloween with our kindergarten buddies today! We made Rice Crispy treats and then our buddies came in to decorate them and watch "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown". I've updated the Paparazzi Picts to include these pictures and many more. Enjoy! ~ Friday is Fall Festival. Remember students must wear tennis shoes with their costumes. Also, we will be heading outside pretty early, and it might be cold. If students bring coats, fleece... please make sure their name is in them. They often get discarded on the field, and we have to go on a jacket hunt at the end of the day! ~ We will be having our unit four math assessment this Wednesday and Thursday. The Open Response will be on Wednesday and the written assessment on Thursday. I will have a review tutorial on Wednesday afternoon. The Study Guide is coming home today. ~ Yearbook picture make-ups are tomorrow. If you ordered pictures, they came home in last week's Friday folder. Even if you didn't order them, there was a proof in the folder. You can still order pictures online. ~ Our Temple field trip is on November 12. I will be sending more information out in an email. |
Math
This week in math, we are continuing to practice traditional division methods. We will also be discussing how to interpret a reminder based on the context of the problem (fraction, decimal, remainder...). Our math test will be on Thursday, with the Open Response being on Wednesday. Students received a review packet today. It is optional, but I highly recommend using it to practice any concepts students are still struggling with. I will be having a review tutorial on Wednesday.
Reading
We are rereading our books to collect evidence and examples to support the reading theories we have created based on our character's personalities and struggles in life. The children are then using that evidence to write their literary essays in Writing, and include quotes directly from the text to support our theories as well. We are also finishing up our class read-aloud, The Great Gilly Hopkins, and using all of our reading strategies to collect evidence to prove the theory we have created as a class for her. The children have been exhibiting some great thinking as we have gotten to know this character very well over the past couple weeks!
Writing
Students will be completing their character essays using all of the notes they have been collecting in their Reader's Notebooks. The essay should be a comprehensive 5-paragraph essay, the paper will include an intro, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph should include examples, evidence, and an explanation to prove their theory regarding their character is true. We are aiming to have the essays finished by next Monday, but I may push that back a few days if we need to.
Social Studies
We are continuing to study all of the acts the British imposed on the colonists. We have been discussing both the colonists' and British reactions, and how these events are influencing the colonists to find ways to fight back against the British. This week, we will be studying how groups like the Sons of Liberty helped push our country to unite.
