Here are a few websites that have great book selection resources. Your child is aware of approximately which level he or she is reading and the best way to choose a "just right" book. If there is a book that your child wishes to read that seems too challenging, books on tape are a great idea. Just remember, many books that are marked "young adult" may have content intended for older teenagers. If you ever have a question about a particular book or need a few suggestions the librarians and I are happy to assist you.
Don't forget to look back at the 5th grade summer reading list. Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project Public Book Lists American Library Association Notable Books Newbery Award Winners Caldecott Medal Winners International Reading Association Oprah's Kids' Reading Lists I loved that book!!!
Have you ever read a book and thought ,"Wow! That book was awesome! I would love to find a similar book to read." Well, you're in luck! Scholastic has created a website that allows you to put in the title of a book and it will give you a list of similar books. Try it out!
