Important Announcements
~ Just in case your children haven't told you (as they told me at least a dozen times today) we may get some winter weather tomorrow. Please pay close attention to your email if it starts to snow or ice tomorrow during the school day.
Reading
We are finishing up our fantasy book clubs this week. Our next genre is historical fiction. Among other things, we will be discussing how to discern the historical facts from the fiction. We will also be looking at how the time period in which they live, plays into the characters decisions and struggles.
Writing
This week in writing, we are finishing up our first drafts of our fantasy writing pieces. These are due on Friday, so students should spend at least one night of their writing homework working on their fantasy story. Take a minute to talk to your child about his or her story. I have been very impressed with their creativity. Next week we will spend a few days focusing on editing and revision before moving on to historical fiction.
Students should spend at least one night of their writing homework revision their WPP from last week.
In grammar this week we will be continuing to discuss appositives, as well as reviewing punctuation of dialogue.
There is a new vocab list posted on Quizlet. Here are this week's works.

Social Studies
Due to a few internet issues we experienced last week, we were not able to finish up our Constitution centers. We will be finishing those up this week and then moving on the westward expansion. It's possible we will be having a short open-notes assessment on this unit. I am not going to announce the exact date, as I want it to be as much an assessment of their notes, as their knowledge.
Math
This week in math, we will be starting unit 7. A few of the things we will be learning about in this unit are; scientific notation, the use of parentheses, the rules for order of operations (PEMDAS) and the construction of line graphs.
Homework
~ Reading Comprehension: (It's something about a large animal. I'll look up the exact name tomorrow.)
~ POW
~ Writing: Fantasy writing and revision of last week's WPP
~ Math: Study Links assigned nightly
~ The next current event is due this Friday
