It's hard to believe that we're only four weeks away from summer. As I was sitting down over the weekend to plan out the next few weeks, I realized that we literally have something on every single day. Hold on! It's going to get a little crazy!!
Important Announcements
Math
As I mentioned, we are now working to complete the most important lessons in units 10, 11, and 12. This week, we will move through the lessons in Unit 10. This unit focuses on building algebraic skills.
Reading and Writing
This week in reading and writing will focus entirely on ERB and WRAP prep. We will also be taking some practice tests to help students improve their test taking skills.
Social Studies
In social studies this week, we will be studying four different important topics, The Dred Scott decision, The Missouri Compromise, The Compromise of 1850, and Bleeding Kansas & The Kansas Nebraska Act. We are moving through this unit relatively quickly in order to get to our Civil War project.

Important Announcements
- Today, as part of our Earth Day celebrations, we heard a storyteller and learned more about Monarch Butterflies.
- This Thursday we will be doing the practice tutorial for the ERBs. Once we have completed the tutorial, laptops will not be allowed to go home until we have completed the ERBs and the WRAP on May 7. Keeping the laptops at school is the only way we can ensure that they are charged and ready to go for the ERBs each day.
- Next Monday is our Chinese field trip. We will be taking buses, so parent chaperones are not needed. We will leave school at 10:30 and will return around 1:00.
- We start swimming in PE next week. Because of our Monday field trip, we will not have our first day of swimming until Wednesday. A letter was sent out from the PE teachers about what each student needs. Please let me know if you did not receive the email and I will forward it to you. It is VERY important that students have their name on everything and they they have a real bag, not a plastic grocery bag, to carry everything in.
- We have finally arranged a date for the MS "shadow" visits. Our class will be going next Friday, 5/2. The only issue is that the middle school does not get out until 3:00, so, in order for out students to experience a full class, they would need to be picked up towards the end of Friday carpool, more like 3:10ish. Please let me know if this will be a problem and I can arrange for them to leave the MS class early. I will give you more details on the exact plan for the visit next week.

Homework
- Writing: Students are writing "at least" a page on their favorite memories of lower school. This will become our next bulletin board, so it's important that they keep in mind that their writing will read by numerous members of the LS community.
- Reading Comprehension: "Spring Celebrations"
- POW
- For our vocabulary this week, we will be focusing on commonly misspelled words. My hope is that these will help with the upcoming WRAP essay. Many of these words we've already studies this year, but I have noticed they they are still being misspelled quite often. http://quizlet.com/_oleax
